One of the biggest headaches when planning a trip to Rome with kids tow is to find a good family hotel in Rome city center.

A quick look at your favorite hotel booking engine will soon reveal the problem.

Unless you have an almost unlimited budget, if traveling with kids you will have to accept a compromise, may it be access to green spaces, the presence of a pool or a good location.

Finding a family hotel, in Rome’s city centre with all of this is almost impossible.

However, this is not to say that there are no good accommodation opportunities for families in Rome!

Over the course the years, I have helped many friends picking the perfect hotel for their family stay in Rome and, recently, I have also been testing them out (my kids love a night at a hotel – even when we live in Rome, it’s a treat we sometimes indulge in!)

What Rome neighborhoods are in the city centre?

Before getting stuck into a list of the best hotels for families in Rome centre, I believe it  is important to define what Rome city centre is.

For the purpose of this article, I definite Rome city centre as the area comprised between the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish steps.

This is the area with the largest concentration of tourists sites and puts you pretty much in the centre of the city.

Hotel Kolbe, 4 star hotel near the Forum and the Palatine – top pick!

Hotel Kolbe is a lovely 4 star hotel in a great location, close to the wonderful ruins and view of the forum and the palatine.

This is the first family hotel we stayed in Rome and it is still one of our favorites.

The location is excellent for sightseeing and they have good family rooms for up to 4 guests.

The hotel has an internal courtyard, has a nice restaurant for nights in and it is close to the Aventino, one of the 7 hills of Rome, where you find with a gorgeous garden (no playground but amazing view and good to run around).

The Circo Massimo and its vast expanse is also nearby and good for small kids to let off steam.

Things I like about it and make it one of the best family hotels in Rome city center for me are its location, which puts you walking distance from most landmarks, the buffet breakfast (pastry and cakes from famous Forno Roscioli but also eggs, meats etc) and the fact that it has a rooftop terrace: I find this a great plus as it means you can have a drink in a relaxing, beautiful setting without having to drag your kids back out!

The hotel can offer car pick up from the airport (about for a car seat if you kids are of car seat age).
