Unless you have an almost unlimited budget, if traveling with kids you will have to accept a compromise, may it be access to green spaces, the presence of a pool or a good location.
Finding a family hotel, in Rome’s city centre with all of this is almost impossible.
However, this is not to say that there are no good accommodation opportunities for families in Rome!
Over the course the years, I have helped many friends picking the perfect hotel for their family stay in Rome and, recently, I have also been testing them out (my kids love a night at a hotel – even when we live in Rome, it’s a treat we sometimes indulge in!)

In this article I will share some of the best family hotels in Rome City centre that I believe will treat you to good welcome, facilities and overall a good stay.

What Rome neighborhoods are in the city centre?
Before getting stuck into a list of the best hotels for families in Rome centre, I believe it is important to define what Rome city centre is.
For the purpose of this article, I definite Rome city centre as the area comprised between the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish steps.
This is the area with the largest concentration of tourists sites and puts you pretty much in the centre of the city.

Hotel Kolbe, 4 star hotel near the Forum and the Palatine – top pick!
Hotel Kolbe is a lovely 4 star hotel in a great location, close to the wonderful ruins and view of the forum and the palatine.
This is the first family hotel we stayed in Rome and it is still one of our favorites.
The location is excellent for sightseeing and they have good family rooms for up to 4 guests.
The hotel has an internal courtyard, has a nice restaurant for nights in and it is close to the Aventino, one of the 7 hills of Rome, where you find with a gorgeous garden (no playground but amazing view and good to run around).
The Circo Massimo and its vast expanse is also nearby and good for small kids to let off steam.

Hotel Capo d’Africa, 3 star hotel beside the Colosseum
The hotel has nice, clean rooms but what stands out here is the hotel terrace which is just delightful and where you can enjoy drinks and snacks.
Rooms in this hotel fall into several categories and include interconnecting family rooms, perfect if you are visiting Rome with kids and need a little more space.

Hotel Lunetta, 4 star hotel near Campo de’ Fiori
hotel Lunetta is a lovely family hotel in a stellar location in Rome city center, right beside Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Navona, two of the city’s most beautiful piazzas!
The hotel has nice family rooms for up to 4 people, larger family suites for up to 5 guests and all the amenities you expect from a good city center hotel including free wifi, 24h front desk and even a small spa!
The rooms in the hotel are not huge but if you get the suite, you effectively have 3 interconnecting areas that give you good room to move and a sense of space.
The breakfast is buffet style and the kids can get breakfast cereals (if not on the buffet, they’ll get them to you from behind the bar).
The hotel is in one of Rome’s best locations for charm and convenience.

Best Western Hotel Rome President, 3 star not far from the Colosseum and Termini station
The best Western President is a baby friendly hotel in Rome city center with extra attentions for families such as cot, changing station, baby bottle warmer, baby bath tub and high chairs.
On top of this, they offer strollers (Please ask for age suitability) and have laundry service discount for families as well as the option to get discounted tickets to Explora Children Museum.
The hotel is in between Termini Train station, in a local and well served area: the tram stop into the Colosseum is in front of the hotel, metro Manzoni is nearby and there is a great playground for children in nearby Piazza Vittorio.
This is an urban, inner city area, on the edge between the historical center and the local, family friendly after area of San Giovanni.
In terms of facilities, this hotel is particularly suited to families visiting Rome with a baby.

The hotel has a scenic, upscale restaurant on its rooftop and pleasant terrace bar with Colosseum Views. Dress code applies.

Hotel Mercure Centro Colosseo, 4 star hotel with pool near the Colosseum
The hotel Mercure Colosseum is a business hotel in terms of feels but comes with one thing that is a life saver if traveling with kids to Rome in summer: a pool!
The hotel is a minute walk from the Colosseum and has a pretty park with playground just beside, which is an added plus since not many places, in Rome city center, offer access to green area.

Double Tree Hilton Hotel Monti – with interconnecting rooms TOP PICK!
The Double Tree Hilton Monti Hotel opened last year but quickly became one of my favourite family hotels in Rome for location and feel.
Situates in a fantastic spot in the Monti District, close to Termini Station and a short walk to the Colosseum, the hotel has large rooms, some interconnecting, and a lovely rooftop terrace with views over nearby Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The hotel also has an onsite restaurant, perfect for those evening when you don’t want to go out again after sightseeing or for a first relaxing meal on arrival

Nerva Boutique hotel, 3 star hotel close to the Colosseum
This is a nice boutique hotel near the Roman Forum and the Colosseum catering for families with a well appointed family suite.
The suite welcomes 3 adults or a family with 2 small children and has two charming bedrooms, a cozy living area and two bathrooms.
The hotel is in the charming Monti District, which is pleasant especially with school-age kids or teenagers who may enjoy the nice restaurants and cafes of the area.

Hotel Mozart, excellent mid range hotel near the Spanish Steps
Hotel Mozart is a lovely mid-range hotel in a spectacular positions right in the center of Rome, close to the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo and the Trevi Fountain.

Hotel Lancelot is lovely family hotel minutes from the Colosseum: it has large family rooms with a double bed and two single beds.
Children under 3 stay free of charge in a baby cot and the hotel has a restaurant and bar/garden patio which is super handy for when tired kids cannot face heading out again for dinner.

Palazzo Scanderbeg, close to Trevi fountain
Not a hotel as such but a residence offering gorgeous apartments with 24/7 guest services in the heart of Rome, a stone through from the Trevi fountain.
The residence is in a fantastic location and is well priced for the level of elegance and service you receive. Families are welcome and kids stay for free: the residence offer family rooms, small present for kids on arrival and residence ‘treasure hunt’. A nice family friendly restaurant is also nearby

Le Quattro Dame Luxury Suites close to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon
Le Quattro dame is a residence with luxury suites located in an excellent location between Piazza Venezia and Largo di Torre Argentina.
The suits can host up to 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) and we like it for families because of the handy location and the proximity to one of our kids favorite attractions in the whole of Rome: the city’s cat sanctuary!
The suites are equipped with private kitchenettes with Nespresso coffee and cappuccino machine, electric kettle and, mini bar which is handy for families with young children especially.

Portait Rome, 5 star hotel near Piazza Di Spagna
For a family luxury stay in the centre of Rome, topped by a view over the famous Spanish Steps, look no further than the Portait Rome.
They welcome families in their family suite which comprises two bedrooms with separate bathrooms (one with its own sauna) and a separate living area.
The most impressive element of this hotel are its gorgeous terraces: they overlook stylish Via Condotti and Trinita’ de’ Monti and the view is so stunning you may never want to leave.
Just a word of warning: the terraces have pretty high walls however, if you are traveling with very young kids, do take into account possible safety concerns.
This area is not very green but you do have Villa Borghese nearby, one of the best parks in Rome.

Hotel Navona, 3 star hotel
Like the name suggests, Hotel Navona is located in the heart of Rome and close to grand Piazza Navona, the old stadium of Domitian and one of the most beautiful piazzas in Rome.
This is a good hotel with rooms designed specifically for large families that can accommodate up to 6 guests, which is not usual in Rome in such a location and in this price range.
This area is not particularity green but it is good for families in terms of proximity to main sights and it does have some of the best gelaterie in the city nearby.

Hotel de Russie, 5 star family friendly hotel near Piazza del Popolo
The Hotel de Russia one of the best five star hotels in Rome and a city institution, having been the hotel of house of illustrious guests for well over a century.
Their exceptional facilities and services extend to the baby in the family with rooms with baby cots and baby bedding, baby lamps, mobiles and play mats (on request), baby bath products, baby hooded towels and any slip mats as well as changing station essentials available upon request.
Older children will love Froggy the mascotte and the many amenities of the hotel that include: kids’ check-in cards, colouring books, Roccoforte kids’ passport and kids menus with their favorite foods (including cookies with Froggy turndown service!).
