A handpicked selection of seven of the best kid friendly hotels in Rome with a pool: family-friendly hotels with outdoor pools in Rome for a perfect summer stay.

Hotels with swimming pools are great for families with kids in summer.

They offer solace from the sweltering Rome heat, get the kid’s energy out, and they can even be a lovely opportunity to meet other families and socialise, something sometimes kids might miss, while away for a while.

Rome has some lovely hotels with swimming pools; however, they are not as common as in other cities and finding Rome hotels with a pool, a good location AND a family friendly feel requires a lot of research.

This is where this list comes it!

I have lived in Rome most of my life and have visited many lovely hotels: I love treating myself to a night in a hotel and my kids adore a pool, so this type of research really is very much in our vibes!

Based on this experience, I can now share my handpicked selection of the best family hotels in Rome with a pool, plus some considerations on location and expectations.

Family friendly hotels in Rome with outdoor pools: Map

Rome family hotels with a pool – need to know.

  • Rome has a limited number of hotels with a pool and even a more limited number of hotels that have a pool and family friendly rooms.

In most cases, hotels that match these two requirements are either top end 5 star hotels or hotels outside of the city center.

While I believe the city center is the best area to tasty in Rome with kids, in summer, it is worth considering staying a little bit away just to access the pool.

  • There is no hotel in Rome with water parks.

Several hotels in Rome have swimming pools suitable for kids; however, none in the city has pools with slides, waterpark or splash areas. The closest thing to this setup is Hu Camping in Town (which is actually lovely!)

The pools in Rome hotels are, in most cases, pools for lounging more than playing; however, this is this list have decent space and green areas for kids to relax and play.

outdoor swimming pool in Rome
  • Rome pools are seasonal. Outdoor swimming pools only open in the hot season which can start as early as May or as late as mid June and tends to run until September.

Alway check with your hotel the exact date and times of operation for the pool as they depend on how the temperatures behave each year!

  • Most pools in Italy require swimming caps! Soft ones are ok, they don’t need to be the plastic ones kids hate, but they are mandatory in most places and the rule is enforced for hygiene reasons, so you may want to let your kids know about it beforehand. Most hotels will provide them, either for free or with a small charge.

Safe travels to Rome!

Please note: I have made this list to the best of my ability but things such as pool access do change with no notice. Always check with the hotel you intend to stay at before committing – the links on this page lead you to booking.com which has a ‘question for the hotel’ function and also the option to book with free cancellation and be in touch with the hotel direct.

Mercure Centro Colosseo (3 guests per room max)

The Mercure Centro is in stellar location just beside the Colosseum and has a beautiful rooftop pool that is spectacular in summer!

The hotel is more a business than a family hotel in vocation / style and this is reflected by a max occupancy of 3 for each room.

however, it rooms for up to three people and it welcoming to kids, which are also welcome at the rooftop pool.

The hotel is a couple of minutes walk to the Colosseum, has buses and taxis on your doorstep and has modern and nice facilities. You see the Colosseum from the pool area!

I particularly like this hotel for the position and the incredible view from the pool.

I find it ideal if you have a child of primary school age and up who can enjoy a slightly ‘grown up’ pool experience (meaning: no screaming and running kids, although you may well find other families here!)

Parco dei Principi, 5 Rome hotel with pool and garden

Parco dei Principi is a beautiful luxury hotel with an outdoor pool perfect for kids.

The hotel is a coveted wedding reception venue thanks to its upscale feel and old world charm, but it is very welcoming to kids and a great place to meet other families too, thanks you to their day passes for the pool.

The hotel has triple rooms and interconnecting rooms for bigger families, restaurant onsite, spa, gym room and is located right in front of Villa Borghese Gardens, one of the most beautiful and kid friendly parks in Rome (think playgrounds, zoo, bike rental etc).

The hotel is a little outside of the historic centre but getting to the sights is easy on foot, if you are a goof walker, or by bus and taxi.

Address: Via Gerolamo Frescobaldi, 5, 00198 Rome | Find info and offers here.

This hotel is ideal if you want a spacious pool, easy access to Villa Borghese and I love that you often find other families here, especially foreigners (it’s a bit pricey for locals, so for us coming here is more a special treat than the average pool day!)

Villa Borghese, just beside Parco dei Principi Hotel

Hotel Gran Melia Villa Agrippina, 5 star hotel

Grand Hotel Villa Agrippina by Gran Melia is one of the most beautiful hotels and in Rome and has a stunning garden and outdoor pool perfect for families.

The large estate is a rare find in Rome: the pool are is in a vast, flat and beautiful garden and has ample space for loungers, which is all rather unexpected if you think you are just beside the Vatican and a short walk from the historic center.

The pool has sunny and shaded areas and is perfect for adult and kids.

In terms of amenities for families, the hotel offers all you expect from an establishment of this level, including option for airpot transfer, spa, 24h reception, restaurant etc. The rooms can take up to 5 guests.

The overall feel of the hotel is closer to that of a resort than an inner city Italian hotel and this is why I love it for families: in summer, having space to chill out during the day and gather energy for evening visits is the best way to tackle Rome!

A Lifestyle Rome hotel

A Lifestyle Rome hotel is outside of the center but a lovely hotel with pool for families perfect for summer.

The hotel is a spa hotel in vocation but is welcoming to children: as well as the pool, there is an indoor play area for them and a kid’s buffet.

The hotel has family rooms for up to 4 people and a handy laundry service – I love it with kids, it means you can pack less or, in our case, we also use the laundry service before flying back home so when we arrive, I don’t have to do laundry first thing!

Crown Plaza San Pietro 4 star hotel  – an IHG hotel

The Crown Plaza San Pietro is a good family friendly 4 star hotel in Rome on Via Aurelia Antica, well outside the city center.

The further out location may seem off-putting but the hotel is well connected to the city and the location comes with great advantages, namely that of space!

This hotel has a large pool in lush gardens and is perfect to take a break from the noise and crowds of the city center without having to leave the city.

The hotel has family rooms for up to 4 people, the already mentioned fabulous pool and garden and a restaurant onsite, which means you can easily lounge here all day in summer and then head out sightseeing after the sun goes down. Bus and taxis are just outside the hotel.

Shuttle service from the Airport is also available (20 euro at the time of writing)

Good to know: this hotel has free parking onsite! So if you are traveling into Rome by car, it’s ideal!

The Cavalieri Hilton hotel is one of Rome’s most famous and iconic hotels and has a fantastic outdoors pool perfect for families.

The Hilton is perched on top of Monte Mario and it is perfect if you are looking for a hotel to relax and unwind away from the busy city center streets of Rome.

The pool has a bar and restaurant serving crushed ice cocktails for the adults btu also kids favorite such as, hamburgers, pizzas and even homemade gelato!

The hotel also has restaurants, a spa, fitness center, business services and family activities perfect if you are traveling to Rome with kids, if the children are tagging along a business trip or if you want a hotel with top notch facilities.

Address: Via Alberto Cadlolo, 101, 00136 Rome | Find info and offers here.

Hotel Villa Pamphili

Hotel Villa Pamphili is a modern, large hotel with a beautiful and spacious outdoor swimming pool surrounded by greenery.

The hotel is out of the center but has great facilities onsite that make it easy to make it home for a while: spacious family rooms, interconnecting rooms, restaurants on site with kids meals, bar, spa for the grownups and the beautiful kid friendly pool outside.

Really handy is the availability of pool towels, so you don’t need to pack too much. Good to know! On good weather years the pool opens as early as late April!

The hotel is out of the center but they offer a shuttle (at a charge) to Piazza dei Quiriti which is not far from the Vatican.

This hotel is significantly gentler on the budget than many others with similar facilities and this, plus the generous space in the rooms and the pool area, is why I recommend it.
