Where to eat in the Coppede’ District: my very local guide to the best restaurants and food spots in and near the Coppede’ neighborhood with my top picks for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks!

If you are looking for restaurants and food recommendation for the Coppede’ Area of Rome, you’ve come to the right person, as this is the area I am from!

When I introduce myself on this website, you may have noticed, I always say I am ‘a Rome mama’; yet I never say where in Rome I am from, as usually it is not particularly relevant. Until we talk about the Coppede’ district and food finds here!

As we’ve seen in my guide to the Coppede’ Area, this neighborhood of Rome is local and residential and most people only spend here few hours at most, to see Piazza Mincio.

Not me! This area is my home so, when you are looking for local food finds and restaurants, I am exceptionally well equipped to give recommendations!

So, without further ado, please find below my top food recommendations and tips on where to eat in and near the Coppede’ Area.

Please note: there are not food spots immediately overlooking Piazza Mincio. the addresses on this page are alla whiting a 5 to 15 minutes walk from it

Grue’ – one of the best breakfast spots in Rome

Very close to Piazza Mincio, and just a few steps from the tram stop on Piazza Buenos Aires, you find Grue’, a local cafe offering breakfast and light aperitivo bites.

Grue has indoor and outdoor tables and while you may not think much of it if you are just passing by (it overlooks a busy street) it is worth a stop as the quality of their pastries means it has climbed his way up to all lists of the best breakfast spots in Rome – it is that good!

In Grue you can have all the coffee offering of an Italian cafe, you find dairy milk alternatives, and a vast choice of sweet and savoury things including cornetto (Italian croissant), pastries of various types, savoury bites like mini pizzas and tramezzini (sandwiches) and, at lunch and dinner, typical aperitivo fare.

I recommend you come here for a bite before you venture into Coppede’ so you are well equipped for your walk!

Address: V.le Regina Margherita, 95, 00198 Roma RM, Italy

Marziali – for a chilled outdoors lunch

Marziali cafe is about 10 minutes walk from Coppede’ but it worth the walk as it is a place that is at the same time quintessentially Roman and will make you feel you are out of the city!

Marziali is on Piazza Caprera, which is a local, delightful square with architecture from the 1920s and two porticoed buildings, one of which is where you find Marziali outdoors tables.

outdoor cafe in Rome

In terms of offering, you find here coffee and sweet breakfast options, light lunch options such as salads and pasta dishes and, in the evening, aperitivo offerings.

The menu is not vast and it is a bistrot more than a full on restaurant yet nonetheless one of the best places to eat near the Coppede’ area and a great one to chill. Advance booking highly recommended.

Address: Piazza Caprera, 8, 00198 Roma RM, Italy

Casa Mia – for an excellent carbonara

Casa Mia is on Via Simeto and while a little detached from Coppede’, it is still reachable on foot from Piazza Mincio.

Casa Mia is a local trattoria and a place that has managed to remain untouched by trends and fads: here, you find excellent local Roman and Italian food in typical Roman atmosphere – pleasant, clean, not fancy (in a good way) and all about the food.

Carbonara

All is good here, yet a special mention goes to their carbonara which is outstanding. This is a sit down restaurant and a great food spot in the Coppede’ area for a proper lunch or dinner especially.

Address: Via Simeto, 15, 00198 Roma RM, Italy

Pepe Verde – for pizza and dinner

About 15 minutes on the other side of Coppede’ (if coming from the center) you find this very local, delicious pizzeria and restaurant: Pepe verde.

This is very much a favorite of mine as the staff is wonderful, the food delicious and the choice vast.

Here, you can have pizza, pasta, meat or seafood, meaning you can please all member of your party in one go, and they are also super accommodating with kids, always willing to make them a simple pasta al pomodoro or with butter or even al pesto even if not on the menu.

A special shout out goes to their desserts.

Address: Viale Gorizia, 38-44, 00198 Roma RM, Italy

The Hoxton – for fancy drinks

Completely different from all other addresses in this list in both in atmosphere and offering, trendy Hoxton is between Coppede’ and Borghese Gardens and a great spot for a drink.

There is nothing particularly roman about the Hoxton, yet the address is worth mentioning as their patio is lovely, the drinks good and the atmosphere pleasant.

Great for an evening drink in the typical mid-century chic atmosphere of the Hoxton hotels, as you make your way back from Coppede’ to the city center.

Address: L.go Benedetto Marcello, 220, 00198 Roma RM, Italy
