Carefully curated selection of the best hotels in Rome for families: family friendly hotels in Rome to suit most budgets in and outside of the center

Choosing a great family hotel in Rome can be stressful.

The city offers a staggering amount of accommodation options, so big, in fact, you quickly find yourself overwhelmed: with so many hotels scattered all over the city, where should you even start? Is one area better than another, is safety a concern, is it worth staying out of the center to save some money?

Once you narrow down the best area to stay in Rome with kids, you are only half way to find a place as now you need to worry about occupancy rules and the fact that many hotels do not seem to offer family rooms (they do, don’t worry).

I understand these concerns very well and this is why, I put a lot of research into finding great family hotels in Rome I feel comfortable recommending. These are hotels that I use myself (I love treating my family to the occasional night in a hotel!), hotels that I recommend to my friends when coming to Rome for a visit and, of course, those I recommend to my lovely blog readers: as you know, I want you to have the best possible experience of my beautiful hometown of Rome and fantastic family accommodation is a big part of it!

I have already shared my top picks for family hotels in Rome city center and today I am expanding that selection with other family hotels in Rome both in the center and in other child friendly areas.

Hotel Nerva is a great accommodation option if you are looking for a family friendly hotel in Rome city center with a boutique hotel feel.

This is one of my favorite Rome hotels near the Colosseum

Hilton Tapestry hotel Cosmopolita, 4 star hotel near Piazza Venezia

The Hilton Cosmopolita is a clean, modern, well located Hilton Hotel right beside Piazza Venezia, a position that makes it super central and within easy reach to the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon.

The hotel is in a busy area but on a quiet street immediately off the main road, which makes it quieter than its location may suggest.

The hotel is good for families as it has interconnecting room, allergy free rooms, breakfast on site, the option to get transport from the airport, baby beds and concierge service. The hotel also has several cafes and restaurants just on its doorstep and family rooms have handy facilities such as min fridge and microwave to store and heat up own food. Le Clarisse al Pantheon, 3* family hotel in Rome historical center

I have a soft spot for Le Clarisse al Pantheon, a fantastic accommodation choice for families in the heart of Rome.

My soft spot for them is due to their lovely staff and the fact that they offer both family rooms and apartments, which makes them a good all round option for most family needs.

This plus their central location, a short walk away from the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, makes this a rare find.

They offer double, triple and family rooms and their apartment has 2 separate bedrooms with a queen sized bed in the master room, and two French size beds in the adjoining room.

The hotel has 24/7 reception, breakfast room, and a cafe serving coffee and drinks, meaning you can enjoy aperitivo in Rome with family without leaving the hotel! They also have a nice terrace and handy family services such as laundry

Private airport transfer from the airport and Civitavecchia port can be arranged.

This is one of my favourite hotels in Rome near the Pantheon.

Hotel Santa Maria, 3* family hotel in Trastevere (great budget find!)

I love hotel Santa Maria, a 3 star family hotel in Rome Trastevere with lots of charm and large rooms.

The hotel develops around a patio, which is lovely after a day sightseeing, and has clean rooms with several layouts (including double, queen beds and bunk beds).

This is one of the few hotels in Rome for families of 5 or more and it has a senior suite that can take 1 queen sized double bed, 2 single beds and an option of a further 2 single beds.

Breakfast is included in the room package and there is free wifi throughout as well as the option of getting bikes to discover Rome on wheels.

Best Western Globus, 3 star hotel at Rome university

Families with young kids and teenagers may enjoy a stay at the Best Western Hotel Globus, a 3 star family friendly best western hotel in the university area.

While off the tourist path, this is a good location with great advantages: proximity to the metro, easy access to Termini station, a buzzy, student feel and lots of shops and lunch places.

The hotel overlooks a busy road during the day but is quiet at night and close to a lovely park, Villa Torlonia, which makes it very appealing with families with young children.

Their ‘baby and kids packages’ come with child friendly meals (menu and cutlery), kid friendly breakfast, bottle warmer, baby cot, baby bath tub, stroller and highchairs.

Older kids will be delighted to find DVD players with children and play stations (make sure you ask for the package when booking).

The hotel has several family rooms including the ‘fantasy room’ that has double bed, bunk beds and toys. This is a great, well priced family hotel in Rome in a slightly unusual yet great location.

Crown Plaza San Pietro

The Crown Plaza San Pietro is a good family friendly 4 star hotel in Rome on Via Aurelia Antica. The hotel is well outside the city center but compensates this slight inconvenience with spacious facilities and a lovely pool, which is a fantastic resource in summer.

The hotel has family rooms for up to 4 people, the already mentioned fabulous pool and garden and a restaurant onsite, which means you can easily lounge here all day in summer and then head out sightseeing after the sun goes down. Bus and taxis are just outside the hotel.

Shuttle service from the Airport is also available (20 euro at the time of writing)

Good to know: this hotel has free parking onsite! So if you are traveling into Rome by car, it’s ideal!
