Tried and tested selection of Rome hotels near Termini station, perfect for business travelers and leisure travels to Rome who need easy access to train connections or the airport. Last Updated: September 2026
Termini station is Rome’s main train terminal, a large train station and transport hub connection Rome with the rest of Italy and, thanks to easy links to the airport, the world.
Termini is so big, it touches several areas, with a distinctive feel and personality: some appealing to visitors, some… a little less. Like it often happens around big transport hubs, not all the streets around Termini and cute, cobbled and charming: while some are, some have a gritty and rough around the edges air that unnerves many visitors.
If you know where to stay near Termini, however, you may find that this area has merits.
Staying near Termini station is the choice for visitors who need easy access to trains, buses and the airport, which is only 30 mins away by direct shuttle train from here. The center is easy to reach by metro, bus and even on foot.
This area also has some budget friendly, safe options, which means it is very appealing for people who cannot afford the often exorbitant places of the historic center proper
Last but not least, some of the areas in this neighbourhood do have charm – all it takes is to know which ones and this post will help!
In this article, we look at the best hotels in the Termini area for visitors chosen with comfort, safety and convenience in mind.Â

Why stay near Termini
Staying in this area means you are:
- Easy access to high speed trains, many local/regional/intercity trains and the shuttle to Fiumicino airport.
- Walking distance from Via Nazionale, Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede, Monti neighborhood
- About 15 mins walk/5 mins by bus to the Colosseum
- About 20 min walk/10 min bus ride to the area of the Pantheon
Why not to stay near Termini
The area around Termini is varied in style and feel and I find it handy to think of it as with several souls.
The area immediately beside the station, Via Giolitti side, has a gritty, run down feel to it and is not the most pleasant late at night especially if you are a woman alone.
This feel is limited to few streets and even there, it often feels worse than it is: however, especially if you are not used to big cities, this area may prove not ideal. NO hotel on this list is on these streets.
In front of the station you find several five stars hotels overlooking large, beautiful and busy squares such as monumental Piazza della Repubblica. These are perfect especially for business stays or if you want a high end, spacious, airy hotel.
The area between the station and the Colosseum is the area of Rione Monti (Monti neighborhood) which has small cobbled streets and a romantic and hipster atmospheres. Here you have smaller hotels, perfect especially for couples.
The area immediately around the station and Via Marsala is different again and has mostly budget hotels that can be handy to keep costs down while in Rome.

Great Rome hotels near Termini train station: our picks
NH Cinquecento 5-star hotel beside Termini Station
NH Cinquecento is a large, luxury hotel right beside Termini Station: the hotel entrance is right beside the main station access area and makes it one of the most convenient hotels you can find, in terms of proximity to train travel.
In terms of facilities, the hotel is excellent, ticking all the boxed of a good NH Hotel (I am fond of the chain, it is my go-to in most destinations).
The hotel is housed in a fully renovated art deco building and has nice rooms decorated in neutral colors, including standard rooms, suites and family rooms suitable also for large families.
Some rooms have nice views and some even a small terrace which can be nice especially in this area, that is not otherwise overly green (there are no parks nearby).
The hotel has an onsite gym and a restaurant and good meeting rooms and free wifi that make it a good hotel near termini for business travelers.
The hotel is pet and friendly.
A hotel bar serving nice drinks and cocktails is on the ground floor, just beside the restaurant, if you feel like an evening drink but don’t feel like tackling the city again. You can find photos and rates here.
Palazzo Naiadi, 5-star hotel with a rooftop pool on Piazza della Repubblica
Palazzo Naiadi is a wonderful 5-star hotel close to Termini Station and overlooking Piazza della Repubblica (aka Piazza Esedra) a large monumental square with a landmark fountain in the center.
The hotel has a luxurious feel and it caters towards upscale leisure travelers: it has grand interiors with neoclassical decor, rooms that are bright and spacious, decorated in neutral tones, and the hotel has a wonderful hotel spa and rooftop pool that are simply delightful.

The hotel has an onside restaurant and bar, a gym, and it is pet friendly. The hotel has family rooms for 2 adults and 1 child or bigger suites hosting up to 4 people. You can find photos and rates here
Nearby attractions: Palazzo Massimo Museum, Via Nazionale, Santa Maria della Vittoria. Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano is 15 min walk from here.
Good to know: this is one of the best Rome hotels with a pool for the summer season.
The St Regis Hotel Rome, 5 star hotel near Termini and Via Veneto
The St Regis hotel in Rome is another excellent 5-star hotel close to Termini station and, more precisely, located on the other side of Piazza della Repubblica from the station itself, a position that means it is also close to the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria (famous for Bernini’s Extasis of St Therese), the Quirinale Palace and elegant Via Veneto.
The hotel has all the luxuries the St Regis name is known for: grand, elegant interiors with neutral golden and black hues, beautiful rooms with neoclassical décor and excellent dining facilities in the Lumen restaurant and garden.
Afternoon tea and champagne sabering make this hotel particularly attractive for special occasions, honeymoons and anniversary trips. The hotel is also an excellent choice for Christmas, since it gets some of the most beautiful decorations in Rome!

This is also an exclusive and wonderful wedding venue if you are thinking of a spectacular wedding in Rome.
You can find photos and rates here.
DoubleTree Monti by Hilton
The DoubleTree Monti hotel is one of my favorite hotels in Rome and not just in the Termini area. I first came to the hotel to enjoy their rooftop terrace (lovely!) but I loved the hotel so much, it has now one of my most recommended addresses.
The hotel has a large, modern and airy reception area, good rooms and even interconnecting rooms, which are really not easy to come by in Rome. The hotel is in a great location close to Termini station, yet removed enough from it that it doesn’t suffer from the slightly grittier atmospheres typical of station areas. You can see photos and rates here.

The Independent Hotel, convenient 4-star hotel near Termini station
The Independent Hotel is a convenient 4-star hotel located in Via Volturno, one of the (nice) streets leading to termini station.
The hotel has nice modern rooms with classic-inspired décor and has a wonderful rooftop terrace that sets it apart from others in the area and makes it wonderful for relaxing in the evening away from the busy train station atmosphere.
The hotel has free wifi throughout, 24/7 reception desk, a small gym and rooms ranging from single to larger family rooms for up to 5 people.
The hotel is very convenient to reach the station and can be a good base if access to transport is paramount. You can see photos and rates here
The Fifteen Keys Hotel, delightful boutique hotel near Termini in charming Rione Monti
The 15 keys hotels is on the other side of Termini Station in the lovely area of Monti.
The hotel is a delightful, boutique hotel in one of the nicest streets in Monti and has pretty rooms with names inspired by the colors of their palette (the blue room, the grey room etc) overlooking an internal courtyard or Rome’s rooftops, very evocative in this area, with red tiles and domes!
The hotel has a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere, 24/7 reception, free wifi and offers complimentary bikes and Vespa rental services.
Termini is only a short walk away.
The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the churches of Santa Prassede and Santa Pudenziana are just beside it and the Colosseum is only 7 minutes away from the hotel.
This is a lovely boutique hotel near termini for couples or solo travelers who want a luxury yet homely feel.
Hotel Le Petit, 3 star hotel
Hotel Le Petit is a budget friendly hotel close to Termini station, on a nice road between the Opera Theatre and Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.
The hotel is in a historic building but has modern rooms, it is very clean, served breakfast and is one of the few hotels in the area with triple and quadruple rooms that do not break the budget. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the station, it is close to the Monti district, the Opera House and has many shops and restaurants nearby. You can find photos and rates here.
The Hive Rome, modern 4-star hotel in Rome close to Termini and the Opera House
The Hive is a modern 4-star hotel only a few minute’s walk from Rome Termini station and near the Rome Opera House and Palazzo Massimo, two important cultural landmarks in Rome.
The hotel is perfect for business travelers or for those looking for a large hotel with an international feel.
The rooms have modern décor, they are soundproof, and the hotel has a lounge bar and pleasant terrace with beautiful rooms over Santa Maria Maria Maggiore, the perfect location to enjoy the sunset with a drink. This area is the ancient Viminale, one of the seven hills of Rome and the area that now hosts the Italian Ministry of Interiors.
Attractions nearby: Rome Opera house, Termini Station, Santa Maria Maggiore, Via Nazionale. The Colosseum is about 20 mins walk from here.
The Meininger Hostel
The Meininger is a little different from all the other hotels on this page as it describes itself as a hotel with hostel vibes and indeed, it is pretty much a bit of both, managing to merge the best aspect of both worlds!
The hotel is located close to the station, in the neighbourhood of Castro Pretoria (between the station and the University) and offers rooms for all needs: from dormitories to private family rooms perfect for families with kids.
The big attractions of this hotel/ hostel are the fact that you can have rooms for several people (if you are a family of five or more looking for a hotel in Rome, you may already know how hard it is to find a suitable room!), it is modern and clean and it is super affordable, which again is not common in Rome. As the Meininger states itself, the vibe has element of the hostel so it is cheerful, sociable and welcomes visitors of all budgets, so it is best suited to families who are not looking for top luxury or exclusivity: we are very much in the affordable luxury category here.
