My free Colosseum printables for kids: perfect to keep the kids engaged during a self-guided tour of the Colosseum. Download for free.
if you are looking for free, fun printables for kids to help them make the most of a self-guided tour of the Colosseum, I can help!
I am from Rome and I visit the Colosseum with my kids regularly: we sometimes go with guides (you can find what my top family tours in Rome here)
Independent exploration can be a lot of fun and is, for many, a preferred way to tackle the Colosseum, for pace, budget, kids’ attention span or just personal preference. However, going unguided comes with the risk of the kids not knowing what they are looking at or not finding a way t engage with place. But it doesn’t have to be this way!
My kids do really well with easy printed materials like scavenger hunts and fact cards and so, I made a few for them, which today I am delighted to share with you too.
While they are not as complete as a guided tour with a specialised guides, they are accurate (I graduated in classics in Rome) and they helped us directing their attention and curiosity to fundamental aspects of the Colosseum which they would have otherwise missed.
I have them on this page for free for you to download. I recommend you use them in conjunction with my guide to the Colosseum for independent visitors, that the adults in the group can use for their very own visit. You can find my free Colosseum guide here.

Colosseum scavenger hunt for preschoolers
Very young kids do not have the capacity to understand and absorb facts about the Colosseum but it dean’s mean they cannot gently engage with it, at an appropriate level of course.
For this age, I like to focus on exploration and observation so I made a scavenger hunt with things they are sure to find and they are likely to enjoy. Of course, being little, they will be more in interested in a seagull than a pattern of Roman bricks, so my ‘Colosseum bingo’ reflects this!

Colosseum Scavenger Hunt for kids
Once my the kids were a little older, I was able to add to my Colosseum scavenger hunts more history and architecture oriented items and I added fact cards so the children could learn as they went.
